Pvt Samuel J. Maccarone was reported wounded in action on 8 August 1944. For this wound he was awarded the Purple Heart a first time. After recovering, he rejoined his unit.

He was overseas for only eight months when he was killed.

His daughter was born a month before he was sent overseas.
