1/Lt Donald R. Green graduated from Ottawa Hills High School in Grand Rapids, Michigan with honors in 1933. He also graduated from Calvin College in 1937. After graduating from the University of Michigan Law School in June 1941, he enlisted in September 1941. After training in Texas and California, he was sent to Officers Canidate Training School at Fort Benning, Georgia and received his commission in June 1942.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Fosse, Belgium.
