1st Lt Joe E. Sheridan Jr. worked on a farm before he enlisted at Camp Wolters, Texas on 18 March 1942.

He was reported wounded in action in France on 11 June 1944 for which he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal a first time.

He was sent overseas with the rank of sergeant and was given a field commission on 17 October 1944.

His brother, Sgt Walter M. Sheridan, was killed in Tunisia in 1943 and is buried next to him.
