More information
Pfc Howard G. Dunham was a driver before he enlisted in Newark, New Jersey on 31 August 1944.He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for heroic achievement on 24 March 1945, in the vicinity of Griesheim, Germany. During an attack on the town, a platoon was pinned down by intense automatic and small arms fire emanating from well dug in positions. Disregarding his personal safety, Pvt Dunham voluntarily secured an automatic weapon and advanced to an exposed position from which he placed devastating fire upon the enemy, thus enabling his platoon to manouver and enter the town by another route without suffering a casualty.
