Sgt Robert W. Fritzmeier enlisted in Cleveland, Ohio on 17 July 1944.He attended college for 4 years. Before his enlistment he was an N. Y. A. manager. After he was inducted Sgt Fritzmeier spent Thanksgiving Day in Hillsboro with his wife and three-year-old son. Late in December he was sent overseas and shortly after his arrival in Europe was moved up to the front battle line. Fritzmeier was recently promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
His brother 2nd Lt Fred H. Fritzmeier was reported killed in action in Italy in June 1944. He is buried at Florence American Cemetery, Italy. Two other brothers were in the U.S. Navy, one serving as a chaplain in the Pacific theater and one being stationed somewhere in the Mediterrainean.
Sgt Robert W. Fritzmeier was first buried at Temporary American Military Cemetery Foy, Belgium.
