More information

T/4 Wayne W. McCall attended Grand City High School and was a carpenter before he volunteered for the Army of the United States at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas on 30 March 1942.

He was awarded the Silver Star Medal and the Bronze Star Medal. The citations cited as follows:

The Silver Star for gallantry in action on 1 December 1944. T/4 McCall reconnoitered for and located an advantageous route over which to carry supplies to the front lines.
Several times he exposed himself to intense artillery and mortar fire to encourage the man of his section to carry out their assigments in spite of many adverse conditions. Though he was mortally wounded by artillery fire while transporting supplies to the forward troops, his courageous leadership will be as lasting inspiration to his comrades. His gallantry was in accordance with high military tradition.

The Bronze Star Medal, for meritorious service in connection with military operations against the enemy during the period 10-16 November, 1944.
