Pvt Ottie C. Yant attended high school for three years and was employed by the Frank Baker Bread Company.

He enlisted at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana on 18 April 1944 and was sent overseas in October 1944. He was wounded in Belgium on 22 November 1944 for which he earned the Purple Heart.
Pvt Yant was officially declared dead one year and one day after he was reported missing. At that time his unit was fighting in the vicinity of Colmar, France.
