More information

1st Lt Ernest L. Temper enlisted in Toledo, Ohio on 28 May 1941 and married his wife Janet Firestone in September 1942.

First Lieutenant Ernest L Temper was KIA in the Battle of Hürtgen Forest.
Not far behind Lt Temper's outfit was that in which his brother Theodore (Ted) was serving, the 310st Infantry Regiment of the 78th Infantry Division.
Ted's unit was the one ordered forward to assist the wounded and bring back the dead. Fortunately, Ted was ordered to remain behind and thus spared the worst kind of hell in war, that of possibly discovering his dead brother. Ted survived the war and went back home. He was wounded by shrapnel fragments in the hip, which never could be removed.
