Willie Young was a farmer before he enlisted on 8 June 1942 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina and was sent overseas in September 1943.

He was reported slightly wounded in action on 17 September 1944 and after recovering in a hospital in France, returned to duty with his outfit on 22 October 1944.

He was taken prisoner and died in Stalag XI-B.
