Pvt Wilbur M. Roome attended high school for three years before he enlisted in Jefferson Barracks, Missouri on 24 June 1943.

He died in a hospital on 22 September 1944, of injuries received in combat on 16 September 1944.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Solers, France.
