Pvt William G. Jegen graduated from high school and worked at the Ford Motor Company.

He enlisted at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas on 21 March 1944.

His father died when he was 1 year old. His half- brother Dallis Drake was killed in action in Normandy and is buried at the Normandy American Military Cemetery.
