S/Sgt Charles E. Marshall enlisted in Washington, Pennsylvania on 17 February 1941 and was employed by the South West Penn Pipe Lines before entering the service. He was a member of Co. H, 110th Infantry when he was called into service and was still in it at the time of his death. He had been overseas two years when he was reported missing after an engagement in Luxembourg and Belgium. S/Sgt Marshall had been awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in Germany on 6 October 1944. He received the American Legion Gold Star Citation posthumously.
