Pvt Donald M. Varner graduated from Loyola High School in Los Angeles in 1943.

He joined the U.S. Army Reserve at Fort MacArthur in San Pedro, California on 10 November 1943.

The remains of Pvt Varner were found in Vossenack and initially registered as Unknown X-5627. He was evacuated to Ardennes Cemetery and could be identified at the research facilities there.
