Silver Star given posthumously to Stephen Soltis - Mrs. Mike Soltis of box No. 569, Connellsville, has received the Silver Star Medal awarded to her Son, T/3 Stephen P. Soltis, posthumously. The citation accompanying the medal is as follows: 'For gallantry in action against the enemy on 14 September 1944.
During intense mortar barrage and direct machine gun fire upon Comany 'C', T/3 Soltis, serving as aid man, exhibited unusual heroism and devotion to duty.
Altough wounded himself in moving forward to tend casualties, he continued at the performance of courageous and unselfish actions troughout the heavy concentration of enemy fire upon his companions. He consistently rendered first aid to the wounded during the day under the incessant hostile fire.
In the pursuance of these deeds, T/3 Soltis was mortally wounded by direct machine gun fire from a pill box of 100 yards away while he was bandaging a wounded officer. The conspicuous gallantry demonstrated by him while under the continuous fire of the enemy has won for him the unanimous and unreserved acclaim of his comrades. The fortitude he displayed in repeatedly risking his life for the welfare of his fellow soldiers reflect the highest credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States'.
