Alfred Whitehorn graduated from Webster Groves Missouri High School and attended Harvard University until he volunteered for the Army of the United States on 4 November 1943. He was selected for the A.S.T.P. program at Fort Benning. After the program was disbanded, he was transferred to the infantry. He was sent overseas in September 1944.
