Pfc Raymond H. Chitwood enlisted at Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas on 7 July 1942, the same day as his brother Charlie A. Chitwood.

The two brothers had remained together through all their training until Raymond was sent over in August 1944, just two months before he was killed. Charlie saw only about two months overseas service.

His brother T/Sgt Charlie A. Chitwood is buried next to him.

Their brother Donald also served in the European Theater.
