S/Sgt Marion E. Hoffer was employed at the Monroe Steel Castings Co. before he enlisted on 17 December 1942.

He was married to Doris Dahl in May 1944.

His brother, Pfc Woodrow W. Hoffer, was killed in action on Morotai Island in the Pacific on 31 December 1944.

Their names are inscribed on a WWII memorial in Veteran's Park, Monroe, Michigan and they are honored at Roselawn Memorial Park with matching granite benches placed by their brother Bill.
