More information

Ronald Jacobs graduated from Worthing High School.

He enlisted on 17 March 1943, at Fort Crook, Nebraska. He was sent overseas on 1th May 1944.

He was reported wounded in action on 21 October 1944. after recovering, he returned to his unit.

Sgt Jacobs was a member of a mortar section which was attacked by an enemy force. Although enemy pressure caused many of the riflemen to withdraw, he and four comrades not only remained at their post but aggressively fought back, killing two enemy soldiers and wounding many more so that the hostile troops were forced to flee. The attitude, courage, and devotion to duty exhibited by this splendid soldier reflect great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces. For this action he was awarded the Silver Star Medal

Sgt Jacobs is remembered as the soldier who sent home a Nazi flag which was captured in a German fort during combat in the Netherlands.

Sgt Ronald H. Jacobs is remembered at the Worthing Cemetery, Worthing, South Dakota.
