More information

Lyle Abrahamson enlisted in September 1942 and trained at Camp Wolter, Texas, Camp Blanding, Florida and Camp Atterbury, Indiana. He was sent overseas in February 1944.

He was reported wounded in action on 24 September 1944 but remained in action. For this wound he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal a first time.

He was killed when the hotel Nicolet in the city center of Malmedy was bombed by allied planes. The hotel served as a kitchen for K, L and M Companies.

It was unknown to the pilots that the allied troops were that far advanced and the town was already in Allied hands.
