Charles Lemoine volunteered for the U.S. Navy when he was seventeen years of age and after retaining in that branch of the service for three and a half years he was given a medical discharge. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on 17 May 1944 and was overseas for only six weeks when he was killed.His brother Harry was wounded in action in France on 24 August 1944.
