Pfc William Zilinek Jr. worked as a tool sharpener at the Union Hardware Company.

He enlisted in Hartford, Connecticut on 28 July 1943.

His brother, GM3c Victor J. Zilinek, was killed when the USS Lexington was sunk during the Battle of the Coral Sea. He is remembered at the Walls of the Missing at Manilla American Cemetery.
