T/Sgt Charlie A. Chitwood enlisted at Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas on 7 July 1942, the same day as his brother, Raymond H. Chitwood.The two brothers remained together through all their training until Raymond was sent to Europe in August 1944, just two months before he was killed. Charlie saw only about two months overseas service.
His brother, Pfc Raymond H. Chitwood, is buried next to him.
Their brother Donald also served in the European Theater.
