Richard L. Gallavan attended Poly High School. He was employed for several years in the citrus industry.He enlisted in July 1942. He trained in the infantry at Camp Carson, Colorado.
He had three brothers in the service: 2nd Lt Robert Henry Gallavan in the Army Air Force, Cpl John Patrick Gallavan, serving in India and 2nd Lt William Michael Gallavan, serving as a navigator in the Pacific Area.
