Pfc John T. Cannon attended Henry High School and for several years had been employed in the Herman Claxton Auto Supply Shop in Paris, Henry County, Tennessee.
He enlisted in August 1943 and volunteered for the paratroopers at Fort Benning, but was transfeered to the infantry. He had been overseas since 27 September 1944.
