More information
Sgt Fruzen graduated from St. Norbert College with the class of 1943, where he followed the R.O.T.C. course. He was sent to England in October 1944.From letters received by his parents, he evidently was in active combat for two weeks preceding his death.
He was awarded the Silver Star Medal. The citation cited: When the advance of his platoon was temporarily halted during an attack due to constant automatic weapons and small arms fire from an enemy strong point, S/Sgt Fruzen, together with two other soldiers, left his position of comparative safety and using a machine gun advanced on the fortification. During the action on one occasion, S/Sgt Fuzen arose in the face of enemy fire to place a direct hit on the strong point which results in the immediate surrender of the installation with 52 prisoners. An estimated 18 Germans were killed during the encounter and S/Sgt Fruzen received an arm wound. The bold, aggressive, action, initiative and conspicuous courage displayed by S/Sgt Fruzen enabled his unit to continue its advance and reflect the highest credit upon himself and the armed forces of the United States.
