Sgt Edward C. Donaldson enlisted in Baltimore, Maryland on 11 February 1944. He was selected for the A.S.T.P. program wand sent to Harvard University, where he qualified for the foreign language section. When the program was abandoned, he was transferred to the Infantry. He was sent overseas in November 1944 and joined his unit a a replacement on 10 January 1945.

He was killed in action while leading his squad in an attack on an enemy machine gun position.
