Pfc Francis C. Laird graduated from Kismet High School in 1941 and attended the University of Kansas for 2 years.He joined the U.S. Army Reserve in Lawrence, Kansas on 7 December 1942. He was selected for the Army Specialized Training Program (ASTP) and studied engineering at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania.
