Voight hoover attended high school for four years and worked on a farm.

He enlisted at Camp Croft, South Carolina on 26 August 1944.

His brother, Osborne Hoover, died of wounds on 4 August 1944 and is buried at the American Military Cemetery and Memorial of Sicily-Rome, Italy.
