Sgt Thomas R. Mc Mahon graduated from West Philadelphia Catholic Boys High School in 1941 and was employed by the Ford Motor Co. in Chester.

He volunteered for the Army of the United States in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 21 October 1942 and was sent overseas in March 1944.

He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal a first time for wounds suffered in action in France on 4 July 1944.
