Pfc Arvill D. Barlow enlisted in Dallas, Texas on 10 February 1941 and trained at Camp Bowie, Texas. He served in France, Germany and Belgium and was wounded in France in 1944.

He joined his unit from the 225nd Replacement Company on 5 June 1944 with the rank of Sergeant.

He was reported severely wounded in action on 27 July 1944 for which he was awarded the Purple Heart a first time. After recovering he returned to his unit.

The exact date on which he was again reported wounded in action and the location where he died is not known.
