S/Sgt Charles F. Dewey was a graduate of Roosevelt High School on the Emporia State College campus, and he attended three years in Emporia State, where he was a commerce major. In Roosevelt High he was a member of the Junior Gilson Players and also a member of the school's track and basketball teams. He worked in the lumber bussiness.

He enlisted in Los Angeles, California on 11 March 1943 and was sent overseas in August 1944.

He was wounded in action last on 9 December 1944, but recovered and rejoined his unit at the front.
