Louis Metallo graduated from Searles High School.He enlisted on 29 October 1942 in Springfield, Massachusetts and trained at Camp Atterbury, Indiana.
He was reported seriously sick on 14 July 1944 and after recovering he returned to duty on 14 August 1944.
In September 1944 he was reported wounded in action and spent several weeks in a hospital. For this wound he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal.
Note: In several Morning Reports he is mentioned holding the rank of Sergeant and being a squad leader.
