More information
Pfc Virgil J. Parker enlisted in Abingdon, Virginia on 4 October 1943.Virgil's name was "Virgil" but a neighbor called him "Little Jack". Virgil started calling himself "Virgil Jack Parker". He was a very religious person and did not want to go to war. He stated he would never pick up a gun and kill someone. He was assigned to the Medical Corps. He was killed when carrying wounded soldiers from the battlefield. One of his sisters said that he knew he would not be coming back. Before he left home, he gave away all his possessions and told his mother he would see her in Heaven. He was killed two weeks before the war ended.
