Pfc Julius Hertz graduated from Glenville High School and the University of Wisconsin. He also attended the law schools of Columbia and Western Reserve and wroked as a manager.

He enlisted in Cleveland, Ohio on 22 January 1941. His father was born in Russia, his mother in Germany.

He was killed while returning to the front after recovering from frozen feet. The truck in which he was riding struck a mine.

Pfc Hertz first buried at Temporary American Military Cemetery Margraten, Netherlands Block LL, Row 4, Grave 83.
