More information

Pvt Valentin G. Barrios worked on a farm.

He enlisted on 17 October 1941.

When stationed in Scotland, he met a girl with whom he married in April 1944.

He landed with his unit at Omaha Beach, France on 6 June 1944.

In January and February 1945 he was allowed to go on furlough to visit his wife in Great Britain where they took their wedding pictures. When he had to return to his unit, he didn't want his wife to accompany him to the trainstation. Instead her father went with him and just before he stepped on the train, he told his father in law, he had a bad feeling about ever coming back.

He was awarded the Silver Star Medal posthumously for gallantry in action.
