Pvt Paul J. Flanagan joined the Regular Army in Rochester, New York on 15 October 1940. He was noted as being employed as a Lens Grinder.He lived with his mother at 128 Broadway, attending Monroe High School. He was employed at Rochester Optical Manufacturing Company before his enlistment. Stationed two years in Trinidad and Panama, Pvt Flanagan was brought back to his country and then sent to England in May 1944. He was wounded twice in European fighting.
