Pvt Francis A. Brinkman Jr. enlisted at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas on 15 September 1943.He attended high school for 3 years. He arrived overseas April, 1944, serving in England, France, Belgium and Germany with the First Division of the First Army. He was seriously wounded January 12, 1945 and died the following day.
The awards were posthumously awarded to his parents in 1947. Pvt Brinkman received the Bronze Star for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against the enemy in September 28, 1944 as a private in Company E, 16th Infantry. Brinkman also won the European-African-Eastern Theater ribbon with four bronze service stars for his work in the Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Ardennes Campaigns; Distinguished Unit badge, Combat Infantryman's badge, World War II Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and the Sharpshooter's Badge with Rifle Bar.
He entered the service in 1943, training in California at Camp Roberts.
