Pfc Joe Baker was a farmer.He enlisted at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia on 26 August 1942 and was a veteran of the campaigns in North Africa, Sicily, Normandy and Belgium.
He was was awarded the Silver Star Medal a first time on 6 June 1944. On 21 September he was posthumously awarded the Oakleaf Cluster to his Silver Star for gallantry in action.
