1st Lt Alfred P. Lettera graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School and worked as a building contractor.He enlisted in Jamaica, New York on 11 April 1941.
Somewhere during the day of 12 April 1945 Lt Lettera was killed while saving two other soldiers. He was awarded the Silver Star Medal for this action.
In his army career Lt Lettera was also awarded the Bronze Star Medal for heroism in action. Besides his decorations he received twice a battlefield promotion; first from Sgt to 2nd Lt. and from 2nd Lt to 1st Lt.
