Sgt Robert C. Norton graduated from Portland High School and attended Ball State College.He joined the U.S. Army Reserve in Indianapolis, Indiana on 23 November 1942. He was sent overseas on 11 July 1944.
He had been wounded in action on 5 September 1944 for which he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal a first time.
Sgt Norton was killed when during the crossing of the Roer river his boat capsized.
At the time of his death, his twin brother RIchard served with the Navy in New Orleans, Louisiana.
