T/Sgt George D. Towne enlisted in Syracuse, New York on 18 September 1940 and received basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C. and Camp Forrest, Tenn. T/Sgt Towne who went overseas with the infantry in December 1943, was awarded the Purple Heart July 12 for wounds received in France.
