S/Sgt Slyvan H. Seidl enlisted in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on 10 July 1941. He was stationed at Camp Wolters,, Fort Bragg Camp Forrest before he was sent overseas in 11 November 1943.

He was wounded in action on 12 August 1944 and returned to his unit on 9 September 1944. For this wound he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal a first time.
