T/5 John K. Meckley graduated from Waterloo High school and was employed at American Can Company in Geneva, New York.

He enlisted in Rochester, New York on 2 January 1943.

T/5 Meckley was hit in the face by an enemy artillery shell fragment. He was bandaged by a medic but after a short while died. When he was transported, he did not have his name tag and was not identified. One month later, several statements of army people cornfirmed his identity because they had witnessed his dead.
