More information

Sgt Arthur R.Holt enlisted in Fort McClellan, Alabama on 22 October 1942. He landed in France on 4 July 1944.

The citation of his Bronze Star Medal stated: "At a time when the company was enlarging its bridgehead, Cpl Holt exposed himself to enemy bazooka and small arms fire and by firing phosphorous grenades gave cover to a machinegun section moving point blank towards an enemy pill-box. His action aided materially in the later storming of the pilbox." His bravery also won him a promotion to sergeant.

Sgt Holt is remembered at Holt Cemetery in Society Hill, Macon County, Alabama with a memorial marker.
