2nd Lt John S. Turner enlisted in New Haven, Connecticut on 6 April 1943.On the picture: John S. Turner, Jr. at the moment he received his commission as a second lieutenant for outstanding battlefield performance. Formerly a technical sergeant, Turner was made a second lieutenant in the field and was commissioned by Brig. Gen. William G. Weaver, commanding general of the 8th Infantry Division.
