Pvt. James Gilchrist immigrated in October, 1923. He graduated from Orange Township High School and was employed as a toolmaker at Ferry Tap & Screw Company.He enlisted in Cleveland, Ohio on 31 December 1943.
At the time of his death, the 11th Infantry Regiment was engaged in the battle for Fort Driant, France.
