Paul E. James graduated from Wiley High School and worked in a drugstore,

He joined the Regular Army at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana on 8 October 1940.

He was initialy buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Champigneul, France.

The exact date when he was reported wounded in action and the location where he died is not known.
