Pvt Wendell F. Standridge graduated from Kent High School and attended Kent State University. He was employed by B.F. Goodrich Co.He enlisted in Cleveland, Ohio on 21 January 1944 and was sent overseas in July 1944.
On 10 September 1944, F Company was ordered to withdraw from a bridgehead across the Moselle river on the east side of the bank, about three quarters of a mile east of Dornot, France. Pvt Standridge was seen entering the river to swim to the west bank. Due to the extreme darkness, he was not seen after entering the river. When they musterd on the morning of 11 September 1944 Pvt Standridge was missing and a search for him was futile.
