S/Sgt Pearson graduated from Luther Wright High School in 1941 and Gogebic Junior College in 1943.He enlisted on 17 June 1943. he was selected for the A.S.T.P. program, for which he was sent to Lehighgh University. When the program was disbanded, he was transferred to the infantry. He was sent overseas in September 1944.
He was married to Willi D. Ridling on 13 August 1944.
