Capt Edward T. Latta enlisted at Fort Devens, Massachusetts on 9 February 1942.

He attended Somerville High School in Somerville, Massachusetts.

The citation of his Silver Star stated:
"Edward T. Latta, United States Army, is reported to have been awarded the Silver Star under the below-listed General Orders for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving with the 84th Infantry Division during World War II. General Orders: Headquarters, 84th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 59 (1945)."

He was initially buried in a temporary grave at Margraten on 2 March 1945. He was disinterred on 14 June 1948 and his remains were prepared and placed in a casket on 23 June 1948. He was given his final resting place on 10 December 1948.
